11/13/14 Our Holy Fathers Spiridon and Nicodemus

Hello Everyone!

It was very frigid again today here in Colorado Springs. Theia had an allergist appointment this morning so we had to go outside, but we didn’t stay out very long. When we went out this morning the temperature showed 2 degrees! The weather in San Diego is sounding really good right now. 🙂

For the last time this week, our Circle Time/Finger Play activities are:

  • My Cross
  • The Wise Man and the Foolish Man
  • Fingers, Nose, Toes
  • B-I-N-G-O
  • Oh, You Cant Get to Heaven

For our “Saint’s Life” today we read the story of our Holy Fathers Spiridon and Nicodemus. They were monks and prosphora-makers in the Monastery of the Caves in Kiev. For those who are unaware of what prosphora is: it is the bread a priest uses when he prepares Holy Communion. It is something very special to be able to make and offer this bread.

Because we read the life of the prosphora-makers, we made a loaf of bread for one of our projects today. Theia loves eating the dough… don’t worry, no raw eggs. 😉

Today, we also did a little festive craft. We decorated a gingerbread man! This was a lot of fun, and a little messy. Theia only ate one of the gingerbread man’s feet, but licked off all of the icing and candy. What a treat for her!

Lastly, we continued on with our Vowel Unit Study. We talked about the letter “I” and the different sounds that “I” can make. Then, we did some wet-on-wet painting. Today, we made wise men out of the “I” we painted, for wIse.

That was the end of our day, and our week! We will be going to the library tomorrow (like we do every Friday). Then, we will be leaving to go visit our family, so I don’t think I will be blogging next week. I have decided to let Theia enjoy her vacation (I know, I am a slacker mommy!). We will be back the week of Thanksgiving though, so come check out what we are doing that week!

In Christ,

D. Kyriake
